In southern Ethiopia, about 40 miles south of Addis Ababa is the Yirgacheffe region. There are many areas to keep track of down here, but geographically, Yirgacheffe is in the Gedeo area, which in turn is south of Sidamo, another famous Ethiopian coffee growing zone. Yirgacheffe, named after the largest town in the area, is itself a guarantee of incredibly high quality. The wonderfully floral and vanilla coffees from here are never enough. You can also sense the origin in the form of the bergamot and soft milk chocolate that is present in both taste and aroma. This coffee is a textbook example of Yirgacheffe. It is also grown in a way that is characteristic of the region – in the homes of small, small farmers who each have an average of just under a hectare of coffee trees.
This green coffee arrived at the roastery on May 29th 2024 and is from the 2023/2024 harvest.
