On the mineral-rich slopes of Mount Kenya grow some of the country’s most sought-after beans – slow, high and with a distinct terroir. This is an AA-rated micro-lot: a variety that includes the largest, densest and smoothest beans, grown at high altitude and with optimal ripening time for maximum aroma development.
The AA rating not only adds to the flavor – it also means more predictability in roasting. The evenly sized beans react stably in the drum, especially in filter profiles where the balance between acidity and sweetness is key. This lot responds well to medium roasting, offering distinct blackcurrant, vanilla, caramel and a deep, chocolatey texture that lingers long into the finish.
For the home roaster, this is a green coffee with both character and control – a Kenyan original that conveys both origin and precision.
This green coffee arrived at the roastery on September 27, 2024 and is from the 2023/2024 harvest. Kenyan green coffee ages well, but despite this, the age of this green coffee is also well reflected in the pricing. It is a bargain!
