On the volcanic slopes of northwest Rwanda, members of the Abakundakawa cooperative grow Bourbon coffee with a distinct identity. Through the Hingakawa initiative, nearly 600 women farmers have taken a leading role in production, and in collaboration with the Gakenke washing station, each micro-lot of coffee is processed with care and precision.

This lot was harvested in 2024 and consists exclusively of carefully selected Bourbon beans, dried with the pulp intact to enhance aromatic complexity and natural sweetness. The raw coffee has a high density and good separation quality, making it well suited for filter roasting profiles that bring out the fruity, vinous notes. In the cup, you’ll find flavors of strawberry, dried banana, plum and black tea – with hints of tropical fruit and a long, elegant finish.

For home roasters looking for both transparency and depth of flavor, this is a raw coffee where terroir, process and female producer ownership together shape something extraordinary.

This green coffee arrived at the roastery on March 4, 2025 and is from the 2024 harvest. It’s a great coffee and for this price it’s a bargain!
