We have never bought raw coffee from as far south as Malawi in Africa before. Not only that, but the Panwamba cooperative, where this wonderful coffee comes from, is in the very south of the country! Panwamba is living proof that it is perfectly possible to grow coffee this far down the African continent. The red soil is rich and the coffee bushes grow in absolute harmony with both mahogany and macadamia trees.
The coffee you get in the cup if you roast this raw coffee medium roast is vibrant, lively and fresh with large hints of berries – red currants, sweet ripe raspberries and blueberries. We sense a certain herbaceousness, in the direction of spruce. Vanilla in both taste and aroma. It is soft and balanced and we are so pleasantly surprised that we just have to go back to this origin again soon, or why not further down to Mozambique, which is the place where the coffee grows furthest south in Africa? We’ll see, take the opportunity to roast this while it lasts!
This green coffee arrived at the roastery on August 16th and is from the 2023/2024 harvest.
