On the border with Kenya in eastern Uganda rises Mount Elgon. The microclimates around here vary endlessly, giving us different flavor profiles wherever we go. The coffee berries grow at different altitudes, in different degrees of volcanic soil, the rains and sunshine hours vary.
Kapchorwa is at a very high altitude, has more rainfall than many other places in nearby regions and fewer hours of sunshine. This results in a longer harvest period, even more slow-growing berries and when the coffee beans – as in this case – are processed using the dry method, it also takes longer than usual.
Overall, the Kapchorwa region gives us a very balanced and uniform coffee. We usually talk about the purity of the coffee (clean cup) and here the coffee scores the highest points. Even in sweetness, it scores a 10 on SCA’s scale for specialty coffee. The body is medium-sized, soft and we have a pleasant aftertaste.
The natural method of drying the berries highlights the origin even more. It is reminiscent of sweet cinnamon truffles and butterscotch, which have been given a little extra crunch by roasting the butter thoroughly. This green coffee is suitable for all brewing methods. We enjoy it medium roast ourselves.
This green coffee arrived at the roastery on October 6, 2025 and is from the 2024-2025 harvest.
