Origin: Kayanza, northern Burundi
Altitude: 1600-2000 m
Producer: Matsitsi Zuberi
Varieties: Bourbon (berry-dried)
Harvested: 2023
Inviting notes of ripe stone fruit, cocoa and a praline with a jam filling. The initial aromas are complemented by delicate, yet lively, red currant and sweet coconut. Close your eyes, taste, savor and let the coffee from northern Burundi transport you to the rolling, lush landscape of the sun-drenched hills where it was raised. One of Africa’s smallest coffee countries offers here nuanced flavors in a natural processed coffee. Elegance is, as always, more important than power when it comes to Burundi but the aftertaste in this coffee is still juicy long.
This is the first time we are roasting a coffee from Burundi that has been processed using the natural method, where the pulp is allowed to dry into the bean after harvesting. The producer is Matsitsi Zuberi and we like to enjoy this coffee, from the washing station in Kayanza, in slightly larger cups. Because it’s a slightly bigger coffee than the ones we’ve drunk before from Burundi, with a big and full mouthfeel. We roast this green coffee mainly for filter brewing, but the processing method also makes it fine as a darker roasted espresso.
Our promise to you as a self-roaster is to always give you the best conditions: A hand-picked fresh green coffee.
