The micro lot from the village of Gatundu, 5 km from the Magomano washing station where the village’s harvest has been processed, offers us a velvety texture and a taste as big as it is elegant. We like to liken Kenyan coffee to the Barolo of the wine world. Rarely is that as true as for this Gatundo lot. We have soft yet present tannins, richly floral perfume of sweet vanilla. The taste is reminiscent of “Italy’s Burgundy”. Complex, with both slight spiciness and at the same time feather-light elegance. Lots of black currants and a soft acidity like from a baked lemon.
But if you’re not a wine geek, it doesn’t matter. You can enjoy this Kenyan micro-lot anyway. We’re proud to offer this origin, which is becoming rarer even among us specialty coffee roasters every year. We roast it primarily to be brewed as filter coffee. If you prefer to enjoy this coffee as an espresso, the acidity is best controlled by a slightly darker roast.
This green coffee arrived at the roastery on September 24th 2024 and is from the 2023/2024 harvest.
