This year’s Brazilian harvest was severely tested. Not only was the country hit very hard by Covid, but just before harvest, an unprecedented frost struck. Choosing the best Brazilian coffee this year was a much tougher task than usual. But we’ve succeeded because Gileno Donizette achieved great things at the end of 2021 on his 7-hectare São Lucas farm!
Yellow catuai is an exciting arabica variety, because unlike other arabicas, these berries are not harvested when they have turned cherry red – but yellow. After harvesting, Gileno allows the pulp to dry into the bean and the result is a classic brasse. The body is large and balanced, the cup is honeyed and sweet. The characteristic Brazilian notes of nuts and roasted almonds really pop and everything is bathed in creamy chocolate.
This coffee is just as good regardless of the brewing method. The aftertaste is soft, long and pleasant – both in a small espresso cup and in a large cup of brewed coffee.
